Artist Statement & Resume

Margie Butler, painter

I paint my daily existence -- flow, interruption, luminous moments and countless pivots.

Color, shape, organic and fabricated elements combine.

I strive to depict a sense of lived space where the felt and formal merge. Glimpses of still life arranged on my studio shelf and collected views from years of plein air painting are the foundation. I keep a colorfully cluttered studio. Ideas oscillate amidst the accumulation. I allow myself to roam visually seeing which forms and relationships call out.

The journey is one of continually starting over. Locating myself anew through the lens of each day's act of painting.
